Don’t Iraq Iran!

Step One: Nuclear First Strike: Take It Off the Table!
CALL TODAY!

CAMPAIGN GOAL: Visit every member of Congress and get an answer to the question "Will you take a nuclear first strike against Iran OFF THE TABLE?"

We want to have the offices of our Kentucky representatives to know are concerned about the escalation of rhetoric about Iran. We can’t let them think, as they did in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, that we just don’t care.

So call today with the simple message: I am calling to get an answer to the question “will Senator---- or Representative ---- take a nuclear first strike option against Iran off the table?” You can have the secretary take the message and get you a response. If you are inclined, ask to speak to an aide in the office who deals with foreign policy, and ask the same question. You don’t need to debate. All they need is to answer the question. The pragmatists are likely to say, “in terms of our national security, nothing is off the table…” But for the purpose of this conversation, we want to know that this option is off the table right NOW. The phone numbers are below.

IMPORTANT VOICES

Phyllis Bennis: "The Bush administration's rapid escalation of anti-Iran rhetoric in the last few months should not be dismissed as posturing... this administration has a history of carrying out actions widely viewed, even among U.S. elites, as reckless and dangerous."

WHAT WE KNOW:

Over the past year, members of the administration including Bush, Cheney, and Rice have been ratcheting up the rhetoric against Iran and have menacingly asserted that "nothing is off the table." On April 9, Seymour Hersh shed new in light in "The Iran Plans," on movement in Washington that includes active preparations for an air strike against Iran using tactical nuclear weapons.

WHAT WE ARE DOING:

We are participating in a citizens' campaign to get a "sense of the Congress." We need to know--immediately--where our senators and representatives stand on the question of using nuclear weapons in a first strike.

The strategy is uncomplicated. We’ll be sending delegations to our United States senators and representatives and ask this simple question: "Will you take a nuclear first strike against Iran OFF THE TABLE?"

A CHALLENGE TO THE PEACE MOVEMENT

Scott Ritter recently urged the peace and anti-war movements to think seriously about strategy and to develop a "laser-like focus" on ending the war. Phyllis Bennis wrote about the importance of finding the ways to apply pressure to those who hold the power to expand the war. We are forcing our elected officials to take a public stand about the first use of tactical nuclear weapons.

So Begin this Campaign by Calling today!

And let us know (pcunity@yahoo.com) if you get a response.
